P90X Results – The Weight’s Coming Off!

© Tim Pannell Photography
I started my 2nd round of P90X workouts on Sept 1st. I weighed 268. My P90X results so far? I’m now down to 263. The weight is coming off pretty regularly at the moment. I am so happy to be at a point where I’m convinced I’ll hit my fitness goals and get back into good shape again.
I made a commitment when I started P90X the first time on May 1st that I wouldn’t let myself get discouraged if I didn’t lose weight. I knew then and still know now that working out 5 or 6 days a week for one or more hours a day will make me stronger and healthier, regardless of what happens on the weight scale.
In the long run I’d rather be a “healthier” overweight guy than an unhealthy, inactive overweight guy. I always believed that if I focused on just doing the workouts and feeling better that eventually the weight would come off.
I had some weight loss success with the first round , but not the amount I had actually hoped for. The real success of the first round for me was the added strength and feeling of overall health that I developed. The 3 months of P90X training was worth it just for that alone.
This 2nd round of P90X seems to be producing weight loss results faster than the previous time. I don’t know why that is, but I’ll take it as a sign that I am on the right track.
I’ve struggled with my weight for so long that somewhere along the road I lost the ability to believe I could do anything about it. It was so completely frustrating. It affected every aspect of my life.
I’m not just talking about wanting to look better. Everyone would prefer to look better. I’m talking about “feeling” better. I’m talking about actually being better. Knowing I have the ability to choose the path I’m going to take in life.
I’ve spent most of my life believing I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. I have a great wife and 5 wonderful kids. We have been so blessed throughout our lives. I’ve had a storybook career that’s lasted over 24 years. On the outside, everything tells me I can do anything.
For me though, what was being said on the inside had become more powerful. The inability to get a handle on my physical struggles left me feeling incapable in so many other areas of my life.
I finally got to the point where I couldn’t keep living that way. I had been making irresponsible choices and I was paying the price for all those choices.
Advice from good friends and family, knowing people were pulling for me, and P90X have rescued me from my downward physical spiral. I’m well on my way to being a healthier guy. I’m making better choices and those choices are becoming easier and easier to make on a daily basis.
I will reach my goal weight of 210 pounds. I am eating healthier meals and will continue to eat healthier meals in more realistic portions. I have turned a corner on my fitness journey and I will not ever allow myself to go back to the old ways.
Thank you to everyone for your support, especially during the times when I was unwilling to do anything about my situation but make excuses. I truly appreciate all of your help!
Does P90X Really Work?

Does P90X Really Work? © Tim Pannell Photography
A lot of my friends keep asking me…...does P90X really work? All I can tell them about is my experience. I can’t guarantee that the P90X workout will work for anyone else given that not everyone else will use it the same way I have.
Not everyone will stick to the schedule. I would say this though, anyone who truly sticks to the workouts will see results. I would love to hear from anyone that actually did the workouts and after all was said and done believed that they got zero results.
I don’t believe that that’s even a possibility. P90X workouts were designed for people that are already in pretty good shape. I am not one of those somebodies. In the past 19 years I’ve weighed as little as 185 and as much as 310 lbs.
I’m currently at 268 and have been plateaued there for a few weeks. I know that some of you might be saying that P90X says it’s designed specifically to avoid “plateauing”. So you say………….there’s proof that it doesn’t work!
Before you go thinking that it’s P90X that doesn’t work, let me assure you that in this case the “plateauing” was caused by none other than me not working.
We took a family vacation for a week and I lost most if not all of my momentum that week. I wrote a post earlier about how easy it is to do P90X if you travel. I should have clarified that post by saying “if you travel by yourself on business trips.”
We were visiting family and I did a lousy job of keeping up with it. I only did 1 workout that week if I remember correctly and went golfing twice.
I love to golf, but come on, nobody ever got ripped from golfing. Tiger has a great physique, but we all know that he didn’t get it by golfing. He trains like a lunatic in the gym.
I have no one to blame but myself for that week, but it definitely took a toll on my momentum. Thankfully, I got back into the swing of things once we got home.
The other struggle I had that week was what I was eating. I took in a lot more fatty foods than I had been eating at home and I could really feel the difference. I was pretty tired and lethargic for most of the week.
The big difference for me at this stage of having done the P90X routines for the last 3 months is that I’ve learned not to beat myself up for the days that I’m less than stellar. The past is the past, tomorrow is tomorrow. the only thing I can control, is what I do with my life today.
For many of you that might not sound like a big deal, but let me assure you it is. In the past I would beat myself up for any missteps, and since my past is loaded with plenty of missteps you can imagine how negative my “self talk” became.
I still have 58 pounds to lose. The cool thing for me is that I KNOW that I will lose it. The other cool thing for me is that I don’t have to get down to 210 lbs. to enjoy the benefits of P90X training.
I’m already enjoying them even though I’m still overweight. I am pain free in my joints, especially my knees. That’s HUGE!!!
I have gained muscle, especially in my arms. I am noticeably stronger. My resting heart rate is lower than when I started the program. How many 268 lb. guys do you know with a resting heart rate of 58 beats a minute? Not bad, right?
The biggest eye opener for me of how much better shape I’m in was this:
I hadn’t played racquetball in over 3 months because my partner hurt his knee. Usually after that long of a layoff the first couple of days back on the court are excruciating.
After a couple of long drawn out points, I would be sucking wind so badly I couldn’t breath. Mike and I played again a few weeks back and I never once was out of breath.
Now some of you might be picturing a couple of old bald fat guys swinging their racquets like Peter Pan. It’s just 1 bald fat guy….me. You may have seen guys dogging it on the court, hitting the ball underhanded as they jog to and fro like a couple of “english gentlemen” in some kind of sick mama’s boy badminton experiment.
That’s not us! We play hard. Mike and I both hit the ball over 160 miles an hour and even though I’m big, I can move pretty quickly. Mike has close to a 48 inch vertical leap and is faster than anyone else I’ve ever played. He played collegiate volleyball, so diving on the floor to keep balls in play is pretty common stuff for him.
I have to hit absolutely perfect shots to beat him, he gets to everything….it’s infuriating! No one should be allowed to be that fast.
In any case, there was an obvious difference in my fitness level when we hit the court for the first time in 3 months. I’m impressed at how much the P90X workouts improved my overall health and fitness levels over that time period.
I did not do this program like some kind of “uber-robot”. In the past 3 months I have skipped days, I have done 1/2 the workout on some days. Some days I’ve done 2 workouts. I have not been as consistent as I intended to be, and my diet hasn’t always been spectacular, but I’ve experienced plenty of great results from P90X.
P90X really does work!
P90X Review – Kenpo X – I Want My Mommy!
The P90X Kenpo X workout is just plain and simple cardio from hell. Holy crap I am dreadfully out of shape. Every time I start feeling good about the direction I’m heading one of these P90X cardio workouts absolutely kicks my butt.
I have been reduced to a sniveling sissy man. The pre workout stretch is enough for me to start praying for the end of the world. I swear my body isn’t made to contort into so many different directions at the same time.
That being said, it’s a great warmup and the workout is intense to say the least. I really do feel borderline spastic while I do this routine and I’m sure that my wife has to hold back full belly laughs at the site of me.
I did it today with my 11 year old son, who ran screaming from the room in complete desperation to escape Tony Horton’s little shop of P90X Kenpo X horrors. This DVD should apparently be rated PG-13……..sorry buddy.
It never ceases to amaze me how much sweat flies off my body doing these workouts. It just keeps coming and coming.
Kenpo X consists or 3 major components: blocking, kicking and punching. There are extended breaks throughout this workout when you will run in place or do jumping jacks the “X” version of jumping jacks to really get your heart pounding.
Currently I am doing about 1 hour on my recumbent bike before each P90X workout that I do. It really does help get my blood flowing and get me into the right frame of mind.
There are a total of 27 exercises which consist of various combinations of kicks, blocks and punches. It’s a nice change of pace from a lot of the more weight lifting, pull up and push up oriented p90x workouts.
My favorite set of exercises is also the one that I’m the least skilled at – Three direction kicks – ball kick, then side kick, then back kick. I’m sure it’s my extra weight that I’m lugging around that causes me difficulty with this, but I like the challenge.
This isn’t quite as intense as the plyometric or core syergistics workouts, but it runs a close third. Have fun with it and enjoy the small lake of sweat that you’ll leave on the floor when you’re done.
Get your butt off that couch!
P90X Reviews – Can I Do P90X If I Travel a Lot?

Travel © Tim Pannell Photography
I get a lot of people contacting me, wondering if P90X will work for them if they travel frequently for business and find themselves on the road.
This is an easy question for me to answer since I travel quite often for my commercial photography business. In the last couple of years, I’ve been to Africa, Spain, France, Greece, Costa Rica, Vancouver, Whistler, London, Norway and Prague. I love all those frequent flyer miles!
P90X workouts are easily adaptable for someone that finds themselves on the road. Assuming you have a laptop to watch your P90X routines on or a dvd player in your hotel room, the only other thing you need is a set of the B-Line Resistance Bands and towels to keep the great big pools of sweat from ruining the hotel room floor carpet.
They’re super light weight and can fit anywhere in your luggage without really making a dent on your weight limit on any of the airlines. Those excess baggage fees have become ridiculous lately.
The workouts are a little different and take a little bit of effort to get used to when compared to using dumbbells and the pull up bar. But you’d have to be a completely uncoordinated weenie to not be able to pull this off. If that is the case, you have bigger problems than your weight or lack of fitness. It does mix things up from the norm though and that helps with muscle confusion.
I like being able to workout in my own hotel room instead of heading down to the hotel gym and fighting over the small amount of equipment usually available.
All in all, P90X travels well and easily. Anyone concerned about the effectiveness of the training when on the road, has no need to be. P90X works great whether you’re at home or at a hotel in the latin quarter of Paris with a view of Notre Dame.
P90X Workout Reviews – Fatboy Fitness – 7/6/09
Well, I made it through the 4th of July weekend and I porked out pretty well over the it, and yet…da…..dada…..daaaa! I’ve still lost weight! I’m now down to 268 and it feels like my body has finally turned the corner.
My body is actually looking for reasons to let go of it’s excess weight. In the past I’ve experienced the opposite feeling. No matter how hard or often I worked out my body would still put on weight.
I think that in my situation, I’ve been overweight for so long that it just took some time for it to get turned around. I’m just glad I hung in there long enough with the P90X workouts to start seeing the results.
Initially, I only wanted to lose 1 – 2 pounds a week and that is still my goal. This last week I lost a total of 4 pounds. I’m just going to put my head down and keep bulling forward.
I’m eating better foods. I eat more often during the day and am getting used to smaller portions. I am riding the recumbent bike about 45 minutes to an hour each day and doing 1 round of P90X everyday.
My favorite P90X to date is P90X shoulders and arms, followed by P90X chest and back. I know now if I stick with it I will be able to reach my ultimate goal of 210 within several months.
I also know that I’ll be able to keep the weight off. I have become quite used to the P90X workouts and on the rare days that I don’t get one in, I truly miss it. I love the buzz I get from pushing my body to the point where it wants to give up and I manage to go even further.
I’ve come a long way in just 2 months and look forward to seeing how much more progress I can make in the next 2 months.
Today, I get to start playing racquetball again, I can’t wait. I absolutely love that sport and have been missing it badly ever since my partner tore up his knee. He finally got cleared by his doctor to start playing again.
For anyone out there that is more than 30 pounds overweight, please read this: Don’t get discouraged if you actually start gaining weight when you start using the P90X workouts. I gained 8 pounds over the first several weeks and it wasn’t until about the 5th or 6th week that I actually started to lose weight on the scale.
Since that point I’ve lost about 15 pounds. In the last 2 weeks alone I’m averaging about 4 -5 pounds of fat loss each week. It’s worth hanging in there long enough to see those results. For the first time in a long time I can actually believe that I’m going to get back into great shape.
Gotta go, it’s time for my workout. Have an amazing day everybody!
CHEAP P90X – HOW CAN I SAVE MONEY ON P90X?
I have a lot of people asking me where they can get the best deal on P90X Workouts. They want P90X results, so they need and want to get the P90X DVD’s, P90X pull up bar and the B-line resistance bands for the best prices possible.
Here’s the best way I know how to save money on P90X products:
1. P90X retails for $119.85 plus S&H at the
2. P90X w/ BeachbodyClub discount = $108.00 plus S&H for
3. P90X w/ Beachbody Coadh discount = $ 89.99 plus S&H for
When you sign up into the Beachbody Club you save 10% on anything you buy at the Beachbody Store. You will also get a 50% reduction on shipping charges. Do you typically buy supplements, meal replacement shakes and protein bars every month?
Then it should make sense to sign up. It’ll cost $2.99/ week and when you do that you’ll get customized meal plans, fitness tools, healthy recipes as well as great fitness advice from personal trainers like P90X’s Tony Horton.
You pay up front for all your products, but the Beachbody Club comes with a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee. If for any reason you decide that the Beachbody Club isn’t right for you you can cancel and get a full refund and still keep everything you purchased with your 10% discount.
When you sign up to become a BEACHBODY COACH you will save even more. As a coach you’re like a beachbody VIP and you’ll get 25% on all your orders and get your S&H for a 50% discount.
You also get your very own website from BEACHBODY where you’ll be able to promote their products and earn income.
Beachbody started the “coaches” program to help their customers explain how they were getting such great results to their friends and family members that were curious about the programs.
Now, as a coach, you can refer anyone who’s interested to your own personalized website and earn a 25% commission and more on whatever they choose to order. I’m a beachbody coach and proud to be a part of the BEACHBODY CLUB.
You become a beachbody coach by paying a one time fee of $39.95. This covers the cost of the website setup (which looks like THIS) and your coaches packet.
After the initial month, there is a $14.95 a month fee to stay in the program and continue marketing your website. You may however, cancel your membership at anytime.
If you decide to cancel within the first 30 days, you can return all the materials that were sent to you and get your $39.95 refunded minus your shipping fees.
I understand if you’re reluctant to sign up for a $14.95 recurring fee, but when you think what you could be spending on a gym membership it seems like a no brainer. Some gyms can charge as much as a $200 one time sign up fee with monthly dues upwards of $40 a month or in some cases even more.
I also considered how much money it would cost to hire a personal trainer and I don’t have the budget for that at all. $80 – $100 a session ads up extremely quick.
Beachbody has over six 90 day workout programs that are getting all kinds of people great results whether they’re starting out in bad shape or good shape looking to get better.
For a one time fee not a recurring monthly fee of $89.99 your getting access to Tony Horton’s P90X as though he was your own personal trainer.
Then, when I factored in how much time I would save by not having to drive my car to and from the gym to work out it, the $14.95 a month seemed a small price to pay to have access to all of the support that I would be getting with Beachbody.
If you no longer need a gym membership and you continue to get your 25% discount on everything, including supplements, protein bars, meal supplement shakes and additional exercise gear as well as additional workout dvd’s, you’re coming out way ahead. There is real value in the program even if you’re not really interested in the business aspect of it.
If you are interested in the business end and would like help in setting up your system, please feel free to email me at tim@fatboyfitnessblog.com and I’ll do all I can to show you the ropes.
Also, when you sign up as a coach you get a one time offer from Beachbody to purchase 6 of their most popular workout dvd’s and accessories in a “showcase pack.” The included workouts are as follows:
P90X
Power90
Yoga Booty Ballet
Turbo Jam
Hip Hop Abs
Slim in 6
You also get a full set of their B-line Resistance Bands, which by the way are great if you travel a lot. Topping it off, you receive weighted gloves (great for cardio) and a squishy ball. Retail price for the package if bought individually would be $446. If you take this one time offer, your price will only be $199 plus S&H.
That is a savings of over $247. This is the best deal available from the Beachbody Company. I would also recommend ordering the recovery drink, a package of Shakeology and the Core Nutrition Pack for metabolism or body toning, depending on your personal fitness goals.
If P90X training is too extreme for you then feel free to return it within 90 days for a full money back guarantee. There are plenty of different programs to choose from and I’ll be happy to help find a workout that would best suit your needs.
I hope this helps with any questions you may have about the programs that are available and the discount options you have to purchase “cheap P90X DVD’s”. If you have any other questions feel free to email me at tim@fatboyfitnessblog.com
P90X Reviews – Believe the Hype!
I’ve been using P90x workouts for about 2 months now. I’ve lost a total of 5 pounds, and dropped 8 % body fat. I started out at 275 pounds.
For those of you who are mathematically challenged, That means that I now weigh 270 pounds and I’ve gone from carrying around 110 pounds of body fat to only lugging 81 pounds.
That is significant! That also means that my my lean body mass has gone from 165 lbs. of lean muscle to 189 lbs. of lean muscle. Holy Crap! All in just 2 months.
It gets better. I have almost no cartilage in my left knee from a skiing mishap when I was 18. As I’ve gotten heavier and heavier over the years the pain and swelling in that knee got more and more difficult to put up with.
When I first started with the P90X DVD’s I’m ashamed to admit that I couldn’t even do a simple jumping jack because of the sharp pain in that joint. Here I am 2 months later and I can do those jumping jacks without any pain whatsoever.
To me, that’s a big deal. I have more energy, more strength. My arms are a full inch bigger than they were when I started. That’s what I call gaining muscle and losing fat.
Muscle burns more calories than fat, so I’m actually starting to see the weight fall off on the scale in the morning. I actually gained about 8 pounds during the first 3 weeks of the program and it was a bit frustrating.
I didn’t have Jillian, the fitness Nazi screaming at me for cheating or being stupid or whatever, but I could still hear her in my head yelling at me for not dropping the weight fast enough.
My goal however, isn’t to drop the weight so fast that I can make a GUCCi purse out of my leftover skin…….ewwww, that was gross…..sorry. I don’t want to just get skinny. I want to be fit. I want muscle, and I want a lot of it. I want to take my time and methodically go about my business.
I’m doing P90X training at least 5 days a week. I’m riding my recumbent bike for 1/2 to 1 hour a day and next week I will start playing racquetball again. Wish me luck.
To answer anyone’s questions – “Does P90X really work?” and “Should I give Tony Horton’s P90X a try?” , let me just say this…..YES!!!!!!!!
It’s a great overall fitness workout. It’s frankly, the best fitness training DVD series I’ve ever seen. Give the 90 day money back guarantee a try. If you do it and keep at it you’ll be amazed at how much progress you can make to reach your overall fitness goals.
Have a blast sweating your butt off!
